Laetitia Steinebrunner is a student at Lighthouse Connections Academy (LCA). After moving to Michigan from Germany, the Steinebrunner family enrolled Laetitia and her sister Christina in a local brick-and-mortar high school. Both sisters were surprised at how disrespectful their peers were to each other and at how much time was wasted between their large classes. By transferring to Lighthouse Connections Academy, they were able to get the most out of their school day in a quiet and relaxing home setting. Hear more about Laetitia’s journey below:
“At my traditional public school, we had 5 minutes between each class, which wasted a lot of time. Also, there was always a lot of noise, chaos, drama, and way too many students per class. At home, I have a peaceful and quiet place to work without an extra 45 minutes of wasted time. I have much more time to enjoy my hobbies and my family.
Some of my hobbies include drawing, painting, playing the guitar and the piano, and photography. Because Lighthouse Connections Academy is so flexible, my hobbies are always available to me. For example, in fall when all the leaves were changing colors and the sun was at a perfect angle, I was able to take an hour off my school time and go take some pictures with my camera. Without online school, I would have never had the time to do this.
My best friends all go to my church, and we text often and plan times to meet up. We have gone rollerblading and bowling before, which was a blast, and we are planning to spend a day baking and crafting.
The things I like most about Connections Academy® are the environment, the kind students, the teachers, and the flexibility. My teachers are always open to answering my questions, and I am thankful for all that they have done for me. There are a few subjects that I am not the biggest fan of, but I have been very lucky this year to get all of these amazing teachers. They all have a great sense of humor and make learning fun.
My favorite subject is biology. I love it because I am very interested in the study of the human body and life in general. After graduation, I would love to work in forensics. My second favorite subject is English language arts because I really enjoy writing. In my previous school years, I wasn’t a fan of writing essays, but I have learned to love them.
After I graduate, I would love to attend a police school where I would then study forensic photography. Connections Academy has just the right classes for what I would like to be when I am older: There are two photography classes and two forensic classes. Because of these electives, I may learn some things that will become useful when I graduate and even when I start working.”
