Learning Coach

Margaret Baltazar is the mother and Learning Coach to two students at TEC Connections Academy Commonwealth Virtual School (TECCA). At TECCA, Margaret is able to clearly identify her children’s needs and receive support from teachers to ensure their success. Read more of her family’s story below:

"Our journey began in 2005 with traditional homeschooling. It was our desire to provide our children with a well-rounded education in a safe and loving environment. As the boys grew older, keeping up with their progress became more and more of a challenge. It was in 2009 that I was introduced to online schooling, and in 2014, we enrolled in TECCA.

TECCA provides the academic support we need—now I no longer have to do everything on my own. Curriculum, books, and everything else we need for a successful year are provided for free. It is my responsibility as a Learning Coach to guide and direct, and provide the support and encouragement to accomplish the assignments for any given day.

As a Learning Coach, there is 24/7 access to an online grade book and daily planner, which allows me to monitor each student’s activities. When questions arise, I never have to feel alone. Teachers are available via phone or WebMail.

With traditional homeschooling, we did not have a true measuring stick to determine academic progress. In TECCA, by means of regular quizzes, portfolios and tests, we are able to see the progress being made and determine where extra attention may be needed.

As a Learning Coach, there is 24/7 access to an online grade book and daily planner, which allows me to monitor each student’s activities. When questions arise, I never have to feel alone. Teachers are available via phone or WebMail. Regular communication has helped to keep us all on the same page when it comes to expectations and staying on track.

Much of our time is devoted to spiritual activities. During our down time, we enjoy spending time with our three dogs, doing outdoor activities such as hiking and going to the beach, and playing non-competitive sports with friends and family. We also enjoy watching movies, and playing board games and select video games.

TECCA’s ideals of helping students develop a good work ethic and ability to give back to their society and community works in harmony with the future plans of both of my boys. They want to volunteer their time and energy to an educational environment so they can help individuals better theirs lives.”
