Why I Became a Teacher

I wanted to be a high school teacher when I was in high school. I was inspired by good teachers, particularly history teachers. I felt like a forgotten kid in high school. Because of my experience, I had a desire to help and support other teens who felt overlooked or who were at risk of falling between the cracks of the educational system.

The Online School Experience at Iowa Connections Academy

What I find most unique about our school community is that we’re a true microcosm of Iowa. Our staff and students live across the state and are from all walks of life. We serve unique and interesting students. We acknowledge and embrace every student’s individual strengths and experiences as we help design their personalized learning strategies. Through that process, we’re able to get to know students and families on a deep level.

The most successful students have developed many executive skills, such as delayed gratification, time management, self-advocacy, and intrinsic motivation. In addition to professional communication skills, these are all fostered at our school and are things that students will continue to use well after high school.

Message for Families Interested in Online School

Personal relationships make the difference at Iowa Connections Academy. The teachers want to know and support your family and student. The more you communicate with us, the more we can develop that support in addition to instruction.

We acknowledge and embrace every student’s individual strengths and experiences as we help design their personalized learning strategies.
