“I have always thought that students benefit from a unique, individualized approach. As a teacher, I strived to meet
students where they were at, and I enjoyed using innovative strategies to engage our young learners. I believe that
students will succeed if they have the support and skills to empower them to do so. As an administrator, I use my lenses
as a former teacher and counselor to help develop an educational system that closes learning gaps and promotes student
success. I always operate from a student first approach, and I am very lucky to be surrounded by a great group of
teachers that feel the same way.”
Aside from teaching, Mrs. Derby also enjoys traveling, being creative, and spending time with her husband Logan and son

feel the same way.
