Cindy Witt is a special education teacher at Iowa Connections Academy (IACA). She started teaching in 2005 and joined the school in 2017. Ms. Witt earned her bachelor’s degree from Dordt University and her master’s degree from Morningside College. She shares her teaching journey below:
“I went into the education field because I wanted to help all kids become successful. As I began my career in the general education setting, I was pulled toward finding ways to help the students that ‘struggled’ become successful. This led me down the path of special education.
“At Iowa Connections Academy, I enjoy watching students who struggled in the traditional brick-and-mortar setting become successful in online school.
“With online school, students learn to be independent and organized and learn time management skills. A teacher is not in the students’ homes to force them to do certain tasks. These skills will help them in their future careers. The people at Iowa Connections Academy really care for all the students and want the families to be engaged. The staff is willing to help out in any given situation in order for everybody to be successful.”
Ms. Witt and her husband are proud parents of five children. Their oldest is teaching in Saudi Arabia, and another daughter teaches in Colorado. Their third child is a Marine in California; the fourth is a sophomore at the University of Northern Iowa; and the youngest will graduate from high school soon and plans to attend Iowa State University. They enjoy visiting their children and watching them become awesome young adults. In their spare time, the family likes to camp at Okoboji, and Ms. Witt personally enjoys running!
