Get ready to enroll in online school at Indiana Connections Academy, serving grades K–12. Typically, the enrollment process takes just a few weeks to complete. But spots fill up quickly, so make sure you start as soon as you can. Here's how to get started:

Check Eligibility

You must meet specific state and program requirements to enroll in online school at Indiana Connections Academy. Student eligibility requirements in Indiana are determined by the Indiana Department of Education. Before enrolling, review the following eligibility requirements carefully to determine whether your student(s) is eligible to start K–12 online school. Once your enrollment is confirmed, please immediately withdraw your student from their previous publicly-funded school. Students cannot be simultaneously enrolled in two public schools.

Note: Indiana Connections Academy does not enroll students who are currently suspended or expelled from their local school or district.

Age Limitations

Kindergarten: Any student enrolling in kindergarten must be five (5) years old on or before August 1 in the school year for which you are enrolling.

Maximum Age: State law grants students the right to attend school until they earn a high school diploma, therefore does not set a maximum age. However, Indiana schools are permitted to determine the appropriate placement of adult students in a traditional high school program. Newly enrolling students who would be entering the fifth year, or beyond, of high school are not eligible to attend Indiana Connections Academy and will be referred to other available Indiana online or in-person adult education programs, where they may attend and earn their high school diploma.

Geographical Limitations

Immunizations

All Indiana Connections Academy students must provide evidence of their immunizations. Provide your student’s immunization form signed by a health care provider. View the Indiana State Department of Health's immunizations schedule.

Indiana Connections Academy allows medical and religious exemptions. Medical exemptions must consist of an item signed by a healthcare provider exempting the student from immunizations. Religious exemptions must consist of a signed letter from the parent indicating that they object to immunizations because it contradicts their religious beliefs.

Prior Public Schooling Requirements

All students that have previously attended public school, private school, or homeschool are eligible to enroll. At least 60 percent of students enrolled in online school at Indiana Connections Academy must have attended an Indiana public school in the prior school year and must have been counted in the public school’s September count.

Please have the following documents available when you are ready to begin the enrollment process.

Child's Proof of Age

A copy of one of the following documents must be provided for every student to verify age eligibility. To avoid unnecessary delays, provide a copy of this document along with your enrollment documents.

As a reminder, the age eligibility is as follows:

Proof of Residence

You must reside in the State of Indiana and provide ONE acceptable proof of residency to be eligible for enrollment in Indiana Connections Academy. You can find out what you need below to start online school:

Not Sure What is Accepted as Proof?

A residential utility bill (gas, electric, water, sewage, or cable) from the last 60 days, in the resident's name and address
Mortgage statement from the last 60 days or current annual lease agreement
Valid Indiana driver's license or state ID
Property tax statement
W–2 showing your home address
Payroll stub from the last 60 days
Letter from a government agency from the last 60 days

Child's Proof of Immunizations

Child’s Proof of Immunization

According to the Indiana State Department of Health, students in all grades are required to meet the minimum immunization requirements. All Indiana Connections Academy students must provide evidence of their immunizations. You may choose to provide the Connections Academy Immunization Form, which is provided in Connexus, to fulfill this requirement. As an alternative, you may provide one of the following as proof of immunization:

A physician's written documentation
An immunization record from another school
An immunization record from the Indiana Immunization Registry (CHIRP) or a printed record from another state registry

This documentation must include the month, day, and year each dose of vaccine was administered and must be stamped or signed by a healthcare provider.

Where Can I Get Immunizations For My Student?

Immunizations can be obtained from doctor’s offices, clinics, or hospitals. Pediatricians and family doctors or their nurses or medical assistants can give your student the shots they need to meet the requirements for school enrollment. In addition, some large chain pharmacies offer immunizations for older children and adults.

What If I Need Assistance Paying For Vaccines?

If you need assistance paying for shots/vaccinations, you may be able to get free or reduced immunizations through this program:

Vaccines for Children (VFC) program is a federally funded program that provides vaccines at no cost to children who might not otherwise be vaccinated because of inability to pay. Children who are eligible for VFC vaccines are entitled to receive pediatric vaccines that are recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
According to the Indiana Department of Health, if you take your child to a public health clinic, you might have to pay a small charge for the nurse to give the immunization, but the shots themselves are free. Clinics that get vaccines from the government are forbidden by law from denying you vaccinations because you can’t pay.

Immunization Exemptions

A student may be exempt from immunizations in Indiana only for medical reasons or religious beliefs. Only a licensed physician (M.D. or D.O.) can provide a medical exemption. A nurse practitioner or a physician assistant under a physician’s supervision can also give a medical exemption.

Religious Exemption: If the parents or guardians hold religious beliefs which preclude receipt of a vaccination(s), a signed and date form or letter exempting the student from a truly held religious belief must be completed. An updated waiver must be presented each year the child’s immunization status is reported.
Medical Exemption: You must provide a physician’s certification that a particular immunization is detrimental to the child’s health. It must state in writing that the child has a medical contraindication to receiving a vaccine and must be resubmitted to the school each year. As true medical contraindications to immunization are vaccine specific, medical exemptions must be written for each vaccine that is contraindicated.

Prior Academic Records

Students across Indiana in grades K-12 are eligible to enroll in Indiana Connections Academy. Those who have previously attended public school, private school, or homeschool will be required to submit academic records for placement.
Report Card
For students applying for grades K–9: Please submit a copy of the report card from the most recent school year.
The following items should be included on the report card:

Grade Level
School Year (example: 2024–25)
School Name
Grading Scale (example: 90–100%=A)

Unofficial Transcript

For students applying for grades 10–12: Submit an unofficial transcript that includes the complete end-of-year grades from the prior school year(s) and any academic documentation (such as a progress report/interim report, class schedule, or marking period/semester report card) issued for the current school year. Additional documentation may be requested for placement.

Not Sure How to Get Your Child’s Report Card or Transcript?

Contact your student's previous school and request the document, providing them with the information outlined above, OR contact your school's district office with the request.

If after attempting these steps you still cannot obtain your student's report card or transcript, please contact the academic placement services team at 1-833-591-0251 to discuss acceptable alternatives.

Prior Academic History Form

For homeschooled students in grades K–12: Complete the Prior Academic History Form indicating what courses were completed through a homeschool curriculum. This form will be available to you in the Enrollment Portal.

Pre-Enrollment Meeting

The Indiana State Education Agency (SEA) requires that a virtual charter school implement an annual onboarding process and orientation for the parent of a student and a student participating in the virtual program/school (IN Code § 20-24-5-4.5). All new families must attend a Pre-Enrollment Meeting prior to enrolling for the new school year.

How should I verify that the documents I sent arrived?

After submitting your documents, you can navigate to the Submit Documents section located in the Enrollment Details. There you can see if your documents have been verified or are still waiting to be processed. The Enrollment Details will also show if your file was marked invalid and your document will be removed so that you can upload a new document. If you are unable to verify the status of your documents or have any questions, please call 1-833-591-0251 and contact the Enrollment Team using the document submission option in our phone system. We will check the system to see if the document was received. Please be prepared to provide us with the following information: student’s name, number of pages sent, the date sent, and if sent by fax, the fax number.

Why is the virtual enrollment process different from a physical school?

How does self-enrollment work if I am 18 years old, or older, or am an emancipated minor?

Students who are 18 or over must meet age eligibility requirements in their state. Students must also submit academic documentation of all courses attempted since entering the 9th grade. Academic documentation will be reviewed by a school counselor to determine the student's eligibility to complete the program requirements before meeting the age cap for enrollment. Students who cannot complete the program requirements before meeting the age cap for enrollment are not eligible to enroll.

Both emancipated minors and students 18 years and older are required to complete the Parent/Legal Guardian (Caretaker) Acknowledgement (PLCA) form and to provide all required enrollment documentation before the student can enroll. Emancipated minors must also submit court documentation for their emancipation. Please contact the Enrollment Team at 1-833-591-0251 for more information.
