Kelly Atkinson

INSPIRE teacher Mr Atkinson

Mr. Atkinson is a secondary science teacher at INSPIRE, the Idaho Connections Academy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Boise State University. Mr. Atkinson shares his story below.

“I became a teacher to work with and develop students academically and socially. The most memorable people in my life were and are teachers, so I want to pass on the care which they provided for me to others.

The benefit of teaching online versus at a bricks-and-mortar school is that you really do not have the classroom management issues. Also, I believe that the curriculum is better aligned and defined to help students be more successful.

The one thing that I would tell a prospective parent as they are deciding to enroll would be that your child needs to be a motivated learner, and that you as a caretaker need to be involved on a daily basis to make certain that the student is not lagging behind. If the student is a motivated learner and the caretaker does his or her part, online school is a favorable option that prepares students for higher education.

Mr. Atkinson’s favorite food is pizza, and if he could meet one person dead or alive, he would love to meet the former basketball coach for NC State, Jim Valvono.
