A note tree shows the following; 1 whole note = 2 half notes, 1 half note = 2 quarter notes, 1 quarter note = 2 eighth notes, 1 eighth note = 2 sixteenth notes. Eighth and sixteenth notes can stand alone, or they can be connected by a beam.You previously learned about whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes. A whole note is held for four beats. A half note is held for two beats. A quarter note is held for one beat.

You can combine these different notes into many interesting combinations.
