Emi W.

Graduate

Emi W. recently graduated from South Carolina Connections Academy and has exciting plans for her future. She’ll attend the University of South Carolina, where she’ll major in broadcast journalism and minor in sports media. A former actor, Emi hopes to become an on-camera college football commentator.

The connections Emi developed with her teachers and guidance counselor at our school played a key role in deciding her future goals and success as a student.

Strong Support from Flexible Teachers

“I started acting at a young age, and this school helped me balance academics and acting,” Emi says. “When I told the teachers about my passion and what I was doing, they were very understanding.

“If I knew I was going to be filming, I’d contact them and they would tell me not to worry, to just get my schoolwork done when I could. … They were super kind and flexible. I was able to enjoy high school as well as get to do what I loved.”

How She Met Her Best Friend

Emi reports, “I met my best friend at this school in the Drama Club. There was a group chat … she messaged me separately, and we just clicked. We wrote a play together. She lived in Florida. I lived in South Carolina. And we would get together all the time to hang out. … She ended up moving only two hours away. Now we can see each other a lot more. She's still my best friend and we talk all the time.”

“I would tell someone who is thinking of attending this school to do it. It’s so fun. It's not just having to do schoolwork. … It's building relationships with your teachers and meeting so many friends.”
