Christy Head is a music teacher at Arkansas Connections Academy (ARCA). Ms. Head has been teaching since 2003 and joined ARCA in 2018. She has a bachelor of education degree in music and a master of education in instructional design. Her story is below:
“I became a teacher because I wanted to help others have the same love for music that I have. I am excited to teach at ARCA because I am getting to help the students have a better understanding of how to appreciate and create music.
ARCA is unique in the fact that we are equipping students to be independent learners and to take charge of their learning. Students meet in LiveLesson sessions to reinforce the information from their studies and get help when they need it. Teachers work with students who are struggling and need extra attention. Students who understand the material can move at the correct pace for them.
When students meet in online classrooms and in-person events, they can build relationships beyond the computer screen with individuals that are not muddied by issues often found in the brick-and-mortar schools.
Choosing to bring your student home to learn in the online environment is choosing to put your students first. Not every traditional public school can meet the needs of every child. ARCA is an answer to this struggle. If you have the time to invest in your student, you will see him or her grow.”
When Ms. Head isn’t teaching, she spends time joking around with her two sons and finding new ways to be creative. She helps her husband with his photography business. She is spontaneous and loves trying something new.
ARCA has a special school community that transcends the online environment. Students and teachers can build relationships based on quality teaching, learning, and friendship.
