Augustus Ge

Augustus playing tennis

Augustus is a graduate of Arizona Connections Academy (ACA). He lives in Phoenix, Arizona. As a nationally ranked tennis player, Augustus enjoyed the scheduling flexibility that ACA offers. He shares his story below:

"I was looking for an online school because bricks-and-mortar public high schools only allow 10 days of absence per semester. I played many tennis tournaments which caused me to miss quite a few days of school each semester. Many of my tennis friends suggested ACA. I looked into it further and knew that it was right for me because the flexible schedule allowed me to play tournaments and not miss any school.

A typical week day for me involved two and a half hours of tennis and five hours of schoolwork. If a tournament was played on weekdays, I could make up the schoolwork either before, after, or even during the tournament. This was good because I never missed any school. My favorite subjects were math and Chinese.

I started playing tennis at four years old. My parents would play together at the park, and eventually I started playing, too. One day we were playing at a high school and, a few courts away, my dad saw a coach teaching a few kids. My dad approached him, and eventually he became my coach. Years later, he remains my main coach. It was very lucky that we met him that day.

I have won a singles national title as well as a doubles national title. The doubles title came at one of the biggest national tournaments in America, the Winter National Championships."
