How Your Online School Students Can Stay Connected
Arizona Connections Academy (ACA) strives to keep students who attend our virtual school connected to their community. At ACA, we hold regular online LiveLesson® sessions with plenty of opportunities to share ideas and experiences, as well as have fun learning together. Students can choose the level of social interaction they are comfortable with—whether in their surrounding community at home or in one of Connections Academy’s online clubs.
ACA strives to provide a variety of ways for virtual school students to meet members of our online community. In addition to live sessions, we also learn through field trips, online school clubs, or other special school events. These different socialization opportunities enable students to explore the world around them and create lifelong friendships with their peers. These activities and events also help our students gain more social confidence, better understand teamwork, and develop stronger leadership and communication skills. And they all just happen to be fun!
Flexibility When It Comes to Extracurricular Activities
We know that ACA students are busy with activities in their communities at home. Our Arizona online school program offers flexibility that allows students to add more extracurricular activities that may not otherwise be available to them in a convenient way. We encourage each and every student to research and find interests outside of his or her online classroom that can help to build character and more confidence.
Working with Families
Families are the backbone of online student’s virtual educational experience. We understand that the same routine does not always work for every student and family. At ACA, we give you the freedom to create a schedule that works for you—whether it includes performing arts, sports, volunteer work, performing arts, or other pursuits.
As a parent or guardian, you get to perform in the very important role of Learning Coach. Part of your job includes keeping your student on track and regularly communicating with teachers.
Our students’ families can easily connect with teachers, school counselors, community coordinators, and other student’s parents both online and in person through:
- Open houses
- Learning Coach training online and at our local teaching centers
- Secure Message Boards where our parents post questions, tips, and other resources for helping students succeed
- Our Virtual Learning Connections blog, where Learning Coaches can find tips and information about topics for busy virtual school families
- Club ORANGE, Arizona Connections Academy’s network of parents who are very involved in our ACA community
Online Learning Community Participation
At ACA, our goal is to also help students understand that they’re part of a broader virtual learning community. With help from our Learning Coaches and community coordinators, we are able to arrange a variety of volunteer activities and participation in other community events throughout the state of Arizona.
