TIME SPENT

How Much Time Does Online School Take?

Just like in a traditional Alabama brick and mortar public school, our students are required to spend a minimum of 25 hours per week on their schoolwork. Some students may need more school time based on their age or individual learning needs.

Students spend their time on two types of lessons:

Alabama Connections Academy LiveLesson Sessions*

How many sessions each week per subject?

ELEMENTARY

Grades K-5

  • Two to three whole-group sessions per week (30-45 minutes per session)

  • Small group sessions are offered once per week for most students (20-30 minutes per session)

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Grades 6-8

  • Four whole-group sessions per week (30-45 minutes per session)
  • Some additional tutoring and small groups are offered (amount can vary)

HIGH SCHOOL

Grades 9-12

  • An average of five sessions per week (45 minutes per session)

*LiveLesson session attendance is required. LiveLesson sessions are recorded to allow your family flexibility when needed with the approval of your student’s teacher or administration.

What Does Flexibility in Online Learning Really Mean?

FLEXIBLE LEARNING

A School Day Built for You

Learning online at Alabama Connections Academy means more freedom when planning your child’s school day. While they must meet Alabama attendance requirements and some tasks are on a fixed schedule, your child can complete many of their lessons at whatever time of day works best for them, and their teachers are ready to help whenever they need guidance.

Through a mix of independent work in their dedicated online learning portal and regularly scheduled LiveLesson sessions with teachers, students have more space to tailor their schedule to meet their needs and pursue their passions.
