Pegi is grateful that her son Wolfgang is able to pursue and spend time focusing on his music career while excelling academically. They both love the teacher support that they get with Wisconsin Connections Academy. Wolfgang’s math teachers helped him overcome his struggles with math.
There are some things that happen in life that you just know were meant to be. That is how I would describe the last nine years with Wisconsin Connections Academy (WCA). I stumbled upon this school quite by accident. Frankly, it changed my life.
I had been homeschooling my son Wolfgang from the start. We didn’t really follow a “school” protocol so much as just learn through our life experiences. You see, traveling is a big part of our life in the music business, and the thought of having to stay home now that my husband and I had a child was not very appealing to me. The decision to homeschool was made. The things we experienced and were able to give to our son Wolfie during our travels were life-changing. When Wolfie was nine years old, I began to question whether or not he was on track with his education. I actually got a bit panicky when I thought, given our unconventional ways, he may be undereducated. He had been drumming since he was three and by age nine was involved in two different professional music projects. I knew he would not be able to move into the bricks-and-mortar school environment, yet I also knew that he may need some structured learning in order to keep up with his peers in a world that values a diploma as a marker of being educated. We were in between a rock and a hard place. I had few options and time was running out. It was at this point that I received a brochure in the mail from Connections Academy. I am not sure how I ended up on their list, but they had sent me an invitation to attend an information session they were hosting in one week’s time. I read over the brochure and discussed it with my husband, Wayne. We were both certain that there must certainly be a catch to this program, which seemed too good to be true. We decided to attend the information session.
What we found at the open house for Connections Academy was that this program was exactly what we needed. This “too good to be true” program didn’t have any catches. It was exactly what they said it was going to be. As an unconventional family, we needed an unconventional alternative for our son’s education. The funny thing about it is that Connections Academy offers a bricks-and-mortar education without the bricks and mortar. We were able to keep our lifestyle while giving our son the education he needed.
I cannot say enough about the educational program at Connections Academy. They offer everything you need, with no strings attached. The classes offered do not rival traditional-setting classes but exceed them. Classes are challenging, but the support system behind them is phenomenal. The lessons online are easy to understand and very user-friendly. Whenever Wolfgang is unclear about something in a lesson or has a question, he can contact a number of sources for help. We have been with WCA since 2006, and Wolfgang’s teachers are always available. There has not been a time when Wolfie has had a question on an assignment or about understanding a concept that he was unable to reach someone to discuss it. His teachers have all been at the ready to assist him in whatever way he needs. He struggled some with math, and his instructor went out of her way to ensure that he was able to overcome this obstacle. When he contacts his teachers, whether by phone or WebMail, he receives their help almost immediately.
I talk to many parents about the current traditional educational system. Their stories are fraught with problems that their children are having in one way or another at the schools they attend. I am quick to tell them about WCA and the many advantages that this school has to offer. Some have decided to follow my advice and move their kids to WCA. They have thanked me profusely and have found this school to be everything I said it was and more.
I, for one, cannot express my gratitude for having found this school. It has allowed us the freedom to be who we are, yet still get the education, degree, and diploma that we need. My son is able to pursue and spend time focusing on his career while excelling academically. He can work his school schedule around his love of music and accomplish everything his heart desires on his own time. I cannot imagine where we would be without WCA. It has been an amazing benefit to our lives. I am certain that you will find it to be the same for you, too.
