Shannon McNatt
Shannon is a 15-year-old freshman at Texas Connections Academy @ Houston (TCAH). She lives in Houston, Texas. Shannon is a talented gymnast who placed in the top six of level nine at Regional’s in Colorado, participating in vault, bars, beam, and floor.
When she was five-years-old, her mom took her to Gymboree and she fell in love with gymnastics. Eight years later, Shannon still feels that love. Her commitment to gymnastics requires that she practice six-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week. A typical schedule for her is: 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. – work out in the gym. 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.– lunch and school. 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.–more work in the gym. Then she goes home for more school work (and hopefully a little rest). She maintains an A Plus average in all of her classes, including Gifted and Talented language arts and math. Shannon reports that she really enjoys doing experiments in science, and math just comes easy. Her mom says…
“…Being a part of Connections Academy has allowed Shannon to pursue her goal of becoming an elite gymnast, obtain a quality education, and participate in activities that would otherwise not be available to her, like the regional Science Fair. Set lessons remove me from being the task master and a flexible schedule allows her to do school work at her own pace. LiveLesson® sessions allow for student discussions and student/teacher interactions; the recording and posting of LiveLesson® sessions accommodates those students who can’t attend or want to review the material presented. Our experience at CA has exceeded our expectations and we will be back next year.”
