Learn more about Specialty Academies at Connections Academy
Specialty Academies for Exceptional Talents
Connections Education® offers three different academy programs: the Sports Academy, the Visual and Performing Arts Academy, and the Science and Technology Academy. The Specialty Academies are virtually facilitated programs designed for enrolled, full-time middle and high school Connections Academy® students who are actively involved in competitive sports, the visual and performing arts, or advanced STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) coursework. Full-time Nexus Academy™ students and select Connections Learning™ students are also eligible to apply to this exceptional program.
The Specialty Academies program offers students opportunities for networking and collaborating, specialty-focused activities, and enriching experiences to improve students’ talents and enhance their academic lives. Specialty Academy membership is an ideal way to connect with like-minded students, investigate and explore college and career options, and have the potential to earn a letter in a specific Specialty Academy.
Is your full-time middle or high school student interested in applying to the Specialty Academies?
Open to all full-time Connections Education middle and high school students, the Specialty Academies Program allows students with exceptional talent in visual and performing arts, competitive sports, or science and technology fields the opportunity to flourish in one of our three programs. Meet some of our amazing students in the Specialty Academies Program.
Visual and Performing Arts Academy
Students who shine in all areas of the performing arts can apply to our Visual and Performing Arts Academy. In addition to their regular coursework, students will network and collaborate with other academy members, sharing tips and learning strategies for perfecting their craft. These budding artists, musicians, and thespians engage in activities such as virtual talent shows and art galleries, audition assistance, broadcasting opportunities, and interactions with professionals in the field. Previous guest speakers for the Visual and Performing Arts Academy have included Irene Dreayer, the Executive Producer for The Disney Channel, The WB, and ABC Family, along with Geoff McBride, recording artist and contestant on The Voice.
Connections Academy schools are an incomparable choice for student athletes who require flexible class schedules while at home or on the road. Our Sports Academy connects student-athletes—including promising future Olympians—from across the nation so they can network and collaborate with other exceptional, high-performing athletes. Here, they can share sports training tips, discover strategies to improve sport performance and learn about the journey to becoming an elite athlete. Sports Academy members participate in activities including fitness challenges, sports training workshops and learning labs, mentoring opportunities, virtual interviews, and interacting with professionals in the arena. Previous guest speakers for the Sports Academy have included Greg Louganis, four-time Olympic diving champion, and James Carter, two-time track and field Olympian.
Science and Technology Academy
The Science and Technology Academy offers students with advanced abilities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, the opportunity to gain exposure to today’s cutting-edge innovations through guest experts in fields such as robotics, cyber security, environmental science, and astronomy. Academy members also enjoy opportunities to interact with like-minded students and participate in a variety of competitions and learning activities to keep students challenged and inspired. Guest speakers for the Science and Technology Academy have included Special Agent Lampo of the FBI, and Amber Armstrong, Hubble telescope scientist.
