Eligibility Requirements

Student eligibility requirements for Florida Virtual School Full Time are determined by the State of Florida. Before enrolling, review the following eligibility requirements carefully to determine if your student is eligible to participate in grades Kindergarten–12.

Age Limitations

  • Kindergarten: Any student enrolling in kindergarten must be five (5) years old on or before September 1 in the school year for which he or she is enrolling.
  • First Grade: Any student enrolling in first grade must be six (6) years old on or before September 1 in the school year for which he or she is enrolling.

Prior School Eligibility

FLVSFT Public (grades Kindergarten–12) and FLVSFT Home Ed (grades 6–12): There are no prior schooling eligibility requirements.

FLVSFT Home Ed (grades 2–5): There are prior schooling eligibility requirements for students enrolling in grades 2–5 in FLVSFT Full Time Home Ed program. Students requesting grades 2–5 can satisfy the eligibility requirements by one of the following methods:

  • Enrollment in a Florida public school for the October 2013 and February 2014 state count dates (per Florida Statute 1002.455 and 1002.37).
  • Demonstrate that a sibling was enrolled in a qualified Florida public virtual school in 2013–14.
  • Demonstrate that your family moved to Florida within the last 12 months due to military orders.

Please click here to review the State of Florida prior school eligibility requirements to determine if your student is eligible to enroll. Note: If eligibility has been determined for enrollment in grades 2–5, the eligibility is only good for one year. Students that return for a second year of enrollment in grades 3–5 will need to switch to the FLVSFT Public school to continue to be served.

FLVSFT Home Ed (grades Kindergarten–1): There are no prior schooling eligibility requirements; however, if a student enrolls in 1st grade then the student will not be eligible to remain in FLVSFT Home Ed program for 2nd grade and will need to switch to the FLVSFT Public school to continue to be served.
