Middle School Clubs & Activities

Connections Academy offers many activities and clubs* to expand student educational and social horizons.

Arts and Crafts Club

Create crafts using materials found at home or in nature. Crafts include apple printing, magnetic poetry, making gifts, and educational games.

Book Club

Readers gather to read and converse with each other about selected books. The teacher guides students through online prompts and discussions in a collaborative environment that encourages group literary discussion.

Chess Club

After successfully completing an online tutorial, students are paired up for online chess, available exclusively to Connections Academy students. Students practice their skills by interacting with their opponent. Take a sneak peak! Demo our online chess game.

Debate Club

Students discuss and debate current events and use skills such as brainstorming, topic research, verbal and non-verbal cues, and role-playing. Language Arts facilitators help students develop position statements, support arguments, and think analytically.

Pen Pals

Skills in letter writing, penmanship, and written expression evolve when students are matched by grade level and personal interests--all while making friends with other Connections Academy students.

Poetry Corner

Creative writers explore the language of poetry and the elements that allow poets to share emotion and ideas. Weekly online forums allow students to share their work and critique other students' work, as directed by Connections Academy's Poetry Lady.

Quiz Bowl

Trivia whiz kids test their knowledge of fun facts in our quiz bowl game. Students are challenged with trivia questions in a weekly academic competition, and winners are named in each state.

Science in the Kitchen

Young scientists apply their research skills and scientific knowledge by conducting experiments and discovering results in the kitchen. Students view and discuss experiments online in a collaborative format.

Student Advisory Council

Students selected in each state by their peers work together to provide guidance and feedback on student-related activities, such as creating a student mentoring program and identifying community service projects.

Student Literary Magazine

Students demonstrate their unique artistic expression in both written and photographic forms, and inspire their fellow students in the monthly Pens and Lens magazine.

Student Newspaper

A student-managed newspaper team, including reporters and staff, publishes a monthly newspaper, The Monitor. Students learn group dynamics, organization strategies, and team-building exercises as they research and write stories.
