Poetry Clubs

Connections Academy offers poetry clubs to appeal to students of all ages and levels of poetic talent.

Poetry Corner I

Connections Academy’s own Poetry Lady directs this group, where young writers explore the language of poetry and hold weekly online forums to share and critique their work.  Poetry Corner I introduces students to various simple poetic forms. Students study poetic language as they learn how to convey ideas, situations, and feelings in inventive and original ways using simple literary devices. Students are prompted to write poetry throughout the year and encouraged to share their original poetry and short stories once a week.  Poetry Corner I is open to students in grades K–5.

Poetry Corner II

Poetry Corner II challenges middle and high school students with various advanced poetic forms. Students learn how to convey ideas, situations, and feelings in inventive and original ways. Lessons teach students how to communicate ideas using metaphor, simile, and imagery. Students are encouraged to share their poetry and short stories once a week during weekly online forums and LiveLesson® sessions. Poetry Corner II is open to students in grades 6–12.
