Why I Became an Educator

You could say that education found me naturally. I began my career in the helping field in 1992 as a social worker, then became a children’s therapist in 1998. Through that work, I saw firsthand how closely students’ emotional well-being and academic success are connected. In 2000, I transitioned into education and found my true professional home as a school counselor, where I could support the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. My path was also deeply influenced by my family: my father was a social worker, and my mother was a teacher who later became a school counselor.  Their example showed me the power of service, advocacy, and education. This ultimately shaped my commitment to become an educator. I joined Tennessee Connections Academy in 2000, continuing my path to support students and families in meaningful and lasting ways.

The Online School Experience

I enjoy the online school experience at Tennessee Connections Academy because it allows me to reach and support students and families in flexible, meaningful ways. As a school counselor, the virtual setting gives me unique opportunities to build relationships, remove barriers to learning, and “meet” students where they are, academically, socially, and emotionally.

I enjoy the opportunities to meet our students! Prom and graduation are wonderful ways for students and staff to connect and honor our students.

Message for Families Considering Online School

Online school can be a great option for families looking for flexibility, personalized learning, and strong support. At Tennessee Connections Academy, students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally while families remain active partners in their child’s education.

"Online school isn’t about learning alone! It’s about learning with support, flexibility, and teachers and counselors who are with you every step of the way.”
