Authorized by the Charter Institute at Erskine
SCCA opened during the 2008 school year and is fully authorized under state law by the Charter Institute at Erskine. The virtual school is operated by the South Carolina Connections Academy, Inc., which is a nonprofit corporation, through a contract with Connections Academy LLC to provide its educational program and other services. SCCA is led by an independent governing board and holds board meetings that are open to the public. Scheduled meeting dates and agendas are already in place for the current school year.
SCCA provides a personalized education for students to master the knowledge and problem solving skills needed to achieve their college and career goals.
The School Experience
A common goal SCCA shares with parents is that we want our students to become successful, productive, and confident adults. SCCA’s full-time online school program was developed to help students build their individual strengths and increase their interests in a setting that feels safe yet still connected to a larger community.
Below are just a few of the ideas behind our unique approach:
Tuition-Free Education, Outstanding Curriculum
SCCA provides students with an amazing online public education at no cost. We do not require materials fees or tuition charges. Our online school classes have been created to meet or even exceed all national and state standards. The best materials and resources are always used, and our curriculum keeps students engaged in creative new ways. As one of the top online schools in South Carolina, SCCA also maintains a high degree of educational accountability for each student by requiring total participation in all the South Carolina state testing programs.
At SCCA, we believe teachers are the foundation of a good educational experience. Our talented teachers are certified, passionate, and specially trained to succeed in online teaching. Teachers love our virtual school because they know that more individualized instruction is beneficial, and they truly care about their students.
All students have unique abilities, and individual students perform better when they receive one-on-one attention in a nurturing and safe learning environment. These solid principles are the basis of Connections Academy’s Personalized Performance Learning® approach. This method allows teachers to really get to know the skills, learning styles, and interests of every student they teach, which also enables them to give each student the best opportunities to excel. Students are given more chances for accelerated or deepened learning in areas of strength or some extra attention in areas where they need help.
Parent-Supported Virtual Learning
With the help of parents, students prosper in education. As Learning Coaches, SCCA parents are encouraged to be closely involved in their student’s daily education. You will have the opportunity to help keep your student on track and see actual progress on a daily basis. Many parents say their involvement is one of their favorite aspects of our virtual school program. Additionally, Learning Coaches can communicate and collaborate with dedicated teachers.
Connections Academy has a user-friendly system called Connexus® that allows students to access lessons, assignments, and resources through this easy-to-use learning program wherever they have an internet connection. SCCA parents love how easy it is to access grades and schedule lessons!
Socialization, Community, and Friendships
Even though your student is schooling online, there are still socialization activities that take place. SCCA students meet in online LiveLesson® sessions and share experiences, compare ideas, and just have fun learning together. There are also opportunities to attend in-person gatherings, activities, and field trips. The flexible scheduling of our online program also allows students to conveniently arrange time for pursuing other extracurricular activities outside of SCCA or even through our own Connections Academy clubs!
