Intervention Specialist

Master of Education, University of Central Oklahoma

Carrie Fryar is a high school math intervention specialist at Oklahoma Connections Academy. She previously taught 9th- and 10th-grade algebra, geometry, and personal finance. Ms. Fryar enjoys the flexibility and collaboration she has with her colleagues.

Why I Became a Teacher

I wanted to help kids who struggle, particularly in math, because math was a struggle for me. I understand that not all students learn the same way. Some need to approach concepts in nontraditional ways. I love watching when the light bulb goes off for a kid or when their perception of math changes and they realize that they can do it.

The Online School Experience at Oklahoma Connections Academy

I love working at Oklahoma Connections Academy because we have a great team of teachers who want to help kids be successful academically. As a special education teacher, I spend more time working with kids than I was ever able to in the brick-and-mortar classroom. I also appreciate that we have a way to provide access to education for all kids, regardless of their needs.

The dedication from teachers and staff at Oklahoma Connections Academy is second to none.

Message for Families Considering Online School

You need to know it is not easy, and the key to your child’s success is in having a strong Learning Coach and fully engaging in the program. Our curriculum is rigorous, and students must learn organization, self-motivation, and independence in their learning.

Hobbies and Interests

I raise longhorn cattle and horses on a ranch in Oklahoma. I enjoy spending time on the ranch with my two boys who are active in rodeo, horse shows, and sports.
