Elementary School Teacher

Bachelor’s Degree, Early Childhood Education, Kent State University; Master’s Degree, Special Education, Grand Canyon University

Ms. Haught is an elementary school teacher at Ohio Connections Academy. She earned her master’s degree in special education from Grand Canyon University. She became a teacher to share her love of learning.

(Almost) From the Beginning

Ms. Haught joined the faculty of Ohio Connections Academy in 2004, just one year after the school was founded. She’s seen all the growth firsthand: from a handful of families to a thriving academic community; from a more basic curriculum to a robust range of subjects and learning experiences; from the limited virtual interface to today’s advanced, easy-to-use technology platform. “Our system has seen many good changes,” she says.

Underlying every one of those developments is the enthusiasm and motivation of her professional colleagues. “Teachers are constantly improving,” Ms. Haught says, “to help each student grow.”

I love teaching at Ohio Connections Academy because we have a dedicated, caring team of teachers striving for high standards in education.

Amazing Accomplishments

As a third grade teacher, a second grade teacher, and now a math intervention specialist, Ms. Haught appreciates the impact she can have on each of her students. That impact is enhanced significantly by the amount of individual attention she can provide. “Students at Ohio Connections Academy get a great deal of one-on-one interaction with the teacher,” she says, “learning experiences that they may not receive in a brick-and-mortar classroom.”

As her young students mature, Ms. Haught enjoys staying connected with as many of them as possible. “I have students that stay in touch through graduation,” she reports. “It is amazing to see all of their accomplishments.”

Message for Families Interested in Online School

"I would tell a prospective family to consider the amount of time you have to offer to your child’s education,” she says. "It is the most important job in the world, and you want to be able to dedicate enough time to make the program work for him or her. This is an amazing opportunity to help your child learn and grow, and for you to see it all happen firsthand.”
