Julie Capon is an elementary school teacher at New Mexico Connections Academy (NMCA). She holds a bachelor’s degree and joined NMCA in 2013. Ms. Capon shares her story below.
“I am the sixth grade teacher for New Mexico Connections Academy. Before moving to New Mexico, I was a teacher in Baker City, Oregon, for more than14 years. I have taught writing and literature for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. While I have enjoyed teaching all grade levels, I specialize in early elementary and special needs education.
I moved to New Mexico to support my husband’s career in health physics. He is a health physics technician in Los Alamos. We live here with our three beautiful children: Haley, who is 12 and loves soccer and running cross-country; Logan, who is almost 10 and loves art, basketball, and baseball; and Colby, a very busy 5-year-old who loves everything! I personally love riding and training horses, all athletics, hiking, camping, and fishing. I also love art, poetry, photography, and writing.
Most of my days are spent chasing kids and our two crazy dogs, but when I get a moment to myself, I can usually be found outside hiking, gardening, or just soaking up the sun.”
I am very excited about being a part of the amazing staff at Connections Academy. I look forward to building relationships with all of you as we make our way through an exciting year of learning.
