Secondary Teacher

Ryan Hart is a high school math teacher at TEC Connections Academy Commonwealth Virtual School (TECCA). Mr. Hart holds a BA in mathematics from Stonehill College and a MEd in curriculum and teaching from Fitchburg State University. He started his teaching career in 2010 and joined TECCA in 2014. Mr. Hart shares why he became a teacher below.

"I worked in insurance for almost eight years after college, but was not really interested in it. When the company went through some changes, I got laid off and realized I wanted to do something different and more rewarding. Becoming a teacher was one of the best decisions I ever made and I’ve never looked back.

TEC Connections Academy has great teachers and a great curriculum. The flexibility we offer helps students develop skills in time management and autonomy. Students have to be independent and driven to get their work done—those skills will be very useful for life after high school. Additionally, the teachers make the school community so special. Everyone here cares and genuinely wants to help students reach their full potential.

The benefit of teaching at an online school is that I can focus on teaching math and spend less time on classroom management. I love interacting with students over the phone and in LiveLesson® sessions. I want to challenge the students who love math, and make the students who ‘hate’ it realize it’s not so bad. I love helping students get to those ‘ah-ha’ moments when everything just clicks."

Outside of teaching, Mr. Hart enjoys running, going to the beach, skiing, and cheering on the Patriots.
