Serena Williams
Coordinator of School Counseling
Bachelor’s Degree, Social Work, University of Maine; Master’s Degree, Human Relations, Husson University
Serena Williams joined Maine Connections Academy in 2025 and is a counselor at our school. According to Ms. Williams, the most exciting part of her work is “partnering with students on their career exploration journey.”
Why She Became an Educator
“A school principal once told me life’s most important lessons are learned in the sandbox,” says Ms. Williams. “I later came to understand he was encouraging me to engage in experiences and be open to learning. I believe in the benefits of a lifelong learning mindset, and I love supporting others in achieving their goals. This made school counseling a natural fit.”
The Benefits of Online Learning
Maine Connections Academy helps prepare students for a bright future, says Ms. Williams, “by being flexible. There are many academic pathways. Students are encouraged to fully engage in their passions and make instructional choices to maximize the learning that fits their pathway.
“What makes this school different from a brick-and-mortar setting is the partnership between teachers, staff, and caretakers. Caretakers have an active role in their student’s learning.”
Online School Experience at Maine Connections Academy
According to Ms. Willams, “Students at this school are engaged in an amazing range of diverse activities. I enjoy learning about and supporting all their endeavors… There is a great amount of positivity at Maine Connections Academy. Teachers and staff are always reaching out and maintaining regular communication with students and families.”
“I enjoy building bridges with students and making connections to develop career pathways they are passionate about.”
