Samantha Beck started teaching in 2017 and joined Iowa Connections Academy in 2023. She advises high school students planning for postgraduation. She also teaches art to students in elementary school.
Why She Became a Teacher
According to Ms. Beck, “I wanted to be a teacher since I was young and was inspired by my mom, who is also a teacher. I started my career teaching K–12 art and have spent the last few years teaching art at the elementary school level.
“Each student [at this school] has their own unique story and interests. As an advisory teacher, I enjoy helping students plan for [the] next step after high school, so they feel prepared and supported.”
The Online School Experience at Iowa Connections Academy
“I encourage students to attend on-camera LiveLesson® sessions with teachers and classmates, so they can engage in helpful conversations and get questions answered,” reports Ms. Beck. “I also encourage students to pick courses they are most interested in, so their learning is meaningful.
“I love that high school students at Iowa Connections Academy have a variety of course options that can expose them to different career opportunities and skills. Students may also take courses through our community college partner to receive both high school and college credit.”

If there’s one thing Ms. Beck would tell parents thinking of enrolling a child in this school, it’s that “Iowa Connections Academy has been around for quite a while. There’s so much experience on our team, filled with caring problem solvers. Your student may have more flexibility learning online, while still being provided with a rigorous curriculum. Don’t be afraid to reach out to teachers and staff. We’re here to support you.”

Ms. Beck’s Personal Interests
Ms. Beck enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and going outside. “Being creative and working in my small art studio on ceramics is also one of my favorite things to do.”
