Dorinda Scott
High School Math Teacher
Dorinda Scott is a high school math teacher at Iowa Connections Academy. She holds a BA in secondary mathematics and a middle school endorsement in math and English from Dordt College. She also has her master's degree in Professional Education from Morningside College. Ms. Scott also teaches Gifted and Talented courses. She shares more about herself below.
“I have always wanted to become a teacher. I love kids and math. Most of my family members were also teachers, so it seemed like the natural course for me. I absolutely love teaching at Iowa Connections Academy because I can work with students at their individual levels. I get to know students well and can work with them to help them succeed! There are so many benefits for teaching at an online school verses a bricks-and-mortar school. Flexibility is a huge thing. I can help kids with their schedule so that it suits them best.
Iowa Connections Academy provides so many resources for teachers, parents, and students to really dive into anything they want. The school also prepares students by providing a great and rigorous curriculum. It helps develop important skills such as time management and self-advocacy in students. Each student really can find what works for him or her and run with it. The one thing that I can tell prospective parents as they are making the decision to enroll is that there are so many opportunities for students to shine in this program. With parents, teachers, and students working together, there is no stopping what the child can achieve!

When I am not teaching, I am often reading—most of the time I would rather sit on the couch and read a book than go out. I also love to golf and spend time out on the lake. Currently, I am working for a gifted and talented endorsement, as well as starting to earn my master’s. I truly believe that we should never stop improving ourselves!”
