10th Grade English Teacher

Bachelor's Degree, Secondary Education and English, Mount Mercy University

Bruce Croy began teaching in 2023, shortly after graduating college, and joined the faculty of Iowa Connections Academy in 2024.

A Truly Fulfilling Profession

Even when he was a student, his professional career path had always been clear. “I have a passion for learning,” he says, “and a desire to help others discover and reach their potential.”

As he sees it, the job of a teacher is not to convey knowledge, but to “inspire curiosity.” That’s the best way “to make a positive impact on students’ lives.” Mr. Croy is a passionate educator, saying that “it’s incredibly rewarding to see students grow and succeed.” Contributing to that success is “truly fulfilling.”

Teamwork and Collaboration

Mr. Croy teaches English and literature, but his first priority isn’t the material; it’s the students themselves and who they are as people. He says it’s important “to see their personalities and how they interact with each other.” Once he understands the personal dynamics, he can “plan activities and lessons that get them involved” as fully engaged participants.

“I always promote teamwork and collaboration,” Mr. Croy continues. It’s how he ensures that the learning experience is an active one. “I want students to work together and overcome tasks together,” he says.

Beyond the Classroom

Mr. Croy’s commitment to young people extends beyond his teaching responsibilities at Iowa Connections Academy. He is the head coach of the varsity girls’ tennis team at Linn-Mar High School in Marion and the assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis teams at Cornell College in Mount Vernon. Not surprisingly, he enjoys playing tennis as well.

I always promote teamwork and collaboration. . . . I want students to work together and overcome tasks together.
