Assistant Principal

Ally Derby is the Assistant Principal at Iowa Connections Academy (IACA). Mrs. Derby earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in Secondary Education with a Natural Science endorsement. She taught science for 6 years at Papillion – La Vista High School in Papillion, Nebraska. Mrs. Derby went on to complete her master’s degree in K-12 School Counseling and served as a middle school and elementary counselor for 3 years. While serving as a counselor, Mrs. Derby started her doctoral program in Educational Administration at the University of Nebraska. In the fall of 2020, Mrs. Derby joined Iowa Connections Academy. She shares her insight on education below.

“I have always thought that students benefit from a unique, individualized approach. As a teacher, I strived to meet students where they were at, and I enjoyed using innovative strategies to engage our young learners. I believe that students will succeed if they have the support and skills to empower them to do so. As an administrator, I use my lenses as a former teacher and counselor to help develop an educational system that closes learning gaps and promotes student success. I always operate from a student first approach, and I am very lucky to be surrounded by a great group of teachers that feel the same way.”

Aside from teaching, Mrs. Derby also enjoys traveling, being creative, and spending time with her husband Logan and son Myles.
