Online School Counseling

In 2014, the Indiana Connections Academy guidance department earned the Indiana Gold Star School Counseling Award. Schools that receive the Indiana Gold Star School Counseling Award have verification from an outside reviewer that their school counseling program addresses the academic, career, and citizenship (social and personal) development of their community’s young people for the purpose of helping students become successful learners, responsible citizens, and productive members of a global economy.

Indiana Connections Academy’s full-time, licensed virtual school counselors are dedicated to helping students reach their full potential, assisting with:

  • Academic goal setting, scheduling, and planning
  • Personal and social development
  • Career advising
  • College planning

Helping Students Succeed

With master’s degrees and specialized training in developmental and educational psychology, our online school counselors help students address the personal, social, and academic issues that can affect their success in school and in life.

At INCA, our virtual school counseling program is built on relationships, so our counselors are readily accessible to students and families—online, in person, and by phone. With the additional support from our national Connections Academy office and its collaborative network of school counselors across the United States, our counselors bring both individual attention and national expertise to our students and families.

Preparing Students for College and Career

Beyond their daily counseling activities, our school counselors offer services designed to help high school students prepare for college and career with:

  • Personal learning plans
  • Interactive online LiveLesson® sessions connecting Connections Academy families across the country with real-time information on financial aid and scholarships, college application processes, entrance requirements, and more
  • College test preparation courses for the SAT examinations
  • One-on-one counseling with seniors to provide resources and assistance with postsecondary planning, including career options, vocational training, and selecting the right college

Meet Stephanie Austin

Manager of Counseling Services

Stephanie Austin is the manager of counseling services for Indiana Connections Academy (INCA). She worked as a special education program consultant for six years, and a high school guidance counselor for nine years. As the district began to grow rapidly, Stephanie became a leader for innovative programming, which included developing an online learning environment, creating a freshman center, and initiating unique curricular opportunities for students.

Ms. Austin says, “I am most excited about working in a virtual education because it is an innovative option for learning, and allows for educators to be flexible and creative while still maintaining a student-centered focus.

I believe having a positive attitude, giving a great effort, and showing enthusiasm helps to overcome the adversities of life. The guidance department at INCA is an incredible resource for students as they take steps forward and navigate through educational pathways. Our counselors are members of a student-centered support system, and are there to assist with social, emotional, or educational barriers to learning.”
