Megan Robbins

Megan Robbins began her career in education as a substitute teacher in 2017 and joined Willamette Connections Academy in 2020. She teaches high school english and is a case manager for students in grades 7–12.
Why I Became a Teacher
I wanted to make a difference, and teaching is something I’ve always gravitated toward. Education has always been important to my family—I’m a fourth-generation teacher—but I didn’t think I was going to become a teacher at first.
This is a second career for me and sort of just happened when I decided to substitute teach so I could be near my children. I was then asked to take a long-term position and fell in love with helping students thrive and realize they can succeed.
I help build bridges between my students and their general education teachers. I also co-host a snack chat one day a week where we just talk about whatever comes up. Students get to engage with one another and see their teachers interact.
The Online School Experience at Willamette Connections Academy
The online format of this school enables students to gain independence when it comes to taking charge of their academics, but also to have support from teachers if they need it. Most of the students I work with lack confidence in their abilities, and watching them grow and believe in themselves has been so rewarding.
I love the relationships I’m able to build with my students and families. I also love seeing students find success and realize there are adults who want to help them succeed. I enjoy being able to celebrate their small wins and big wins.
If there’s one thing I’d tell parents thinking of enrolling their student here, it would be that this school is like a family, and anyone who attends, whether all the way through high school or for just a little bit, is a family member.

My Interests
I have three sons, and currently serve on the school board where they attend school. In my spare time, I like to craft, hunt, fish, and camp. Living in eastern Oregon means lots of open space, and we hunt in one of the largest wilderness areas in the state. I like to read both e-books and physical ones, but don’t have nearly as much time to read as I’d like.
