“I have taught sixth, seventh, and eighth grade math, including Algebra I for high school credit,” said Mr. Sullivan. “I had many jobs before becoming a teacher, and I used math in all of them. When I decided to become a teacher, I knew that I wanted to share my love of math with students and help them ‘make friends’ with math.

“I love teaching online because there are fewer distractions for me and the students—and online learning is a great option for many families. It’s much easier to work with students individually and in small groups in our setting than in a brick-and-mortar school, and I can really individualize instruction for the students.

“Our curriculum offers students a rich, challenging learning experience using different learning styles. The emphasis on real-world situations allows students to see how the math they’re learning applies to their lives, and answers the question, ‘Why are we learning this?’

“Our school community is special because Learning Coaches, students, and teachers are all working together for positive learning outcomes for students. Communication is the key, and we’re all only a phone call or WebMail away.

“I like to let prospective parents know that at our school, they’ll have a great deal of support and that they should never hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

“I was born and raised in Michigan, and I joined the U.S. Army right after high school. I studied Russian at the Defense Language Institute [Foreign Language Center] in Monterey, California, and was stationed in West Berlin, Germany, for two years during the Cold War. I like to play the piano for fun, and I also read true crime novels.”
