Hugo Jaimes is a high school Spanish teacher at California Connections Academy. He received his bachelor of arts in Spanish from California State University, Bakersfield. He came to Connections Academy in 2013 after previously acting as a long-term high school substitute teacher.
When asked why he decided to go into education, Mr. Jaimes said, “When I was in high school, I took Spanish with a very dedicated teacher. This teacher had decided to change from teaching college to teaching high school because he believed that college students did not put enough dedication into their Spanish courses. He was very inspiring to me because he always pushed his students to achieve higher. He is the reason that I chose to attend a university right after high school, as opposed to going through a community college first as most of my friends did. Because of my interaction with that awesome teacher, I realized that it’s about more than simply teaching students the subjects., As teachers, we also have the power to make a positive change in students’ lives and to inspire them to succeed.”
In his free time, Mr. Jaimes plays soccer and is in a Mexican music band. He has been performing as a musician since he was 10 years old and now performs with his band at parties, weddings, and quinceañeras.
