Igniting a Passion for Virtual Learning

The Board of Directors (Board) of Atlantic Connections Academy will be applying to the State Charter School Commission (SCSC) to start a public virtual charter school for the 2027-28 school year. Atlantic Connections Academy will begin by serving students in grades 6-10 statewide and expand to grades K-12 by year four. Atlantic Connections Academy will implement an award-winning, standards-aligned curriculum focusing on and supporting academic achievement for all students.

Students and families will benefit from the best practices developed from this proven core model of virtual learning over the past 20 years. Atlantic Connections Academy will also provide students with a unique badging and credentialing experience where students can learn a new skill and work on career readiness.

Timeline

Empowering K-12 Students with Proven Virtual Education

Atlantic Connections Academy will afford Georgia families access to a public virtual charter school option with the following:

High-quality Curriculum

Our curriculum and instruction will meet state and national standards while integrating the best materials, texts, and resources available.

Exceptional Teachers

Experts in online learning and online learning protocols. Teachers will be Georgia-certified and will be trained to excel in online teaching.

Individualized Learning

Each student has unique abilities and performs better when receiving individualized attention in a nurturing learning environment, and this will be a core concept at Atlantic Connections Academy.

Career Coaching

Career coaches will support school leaders and counselors to help students navigate all of the aspects of their College and Career preparation journey, including helping with pathway selection, identifying experiential opportunities most beneficial to students based on their interests and aptitude, and compiling portfolios (“Digital Backpacks”) that will set the students up for immediate success following graduation, whether enrolling in college, a trade school, or entering the job market.

Career Pathways

Students will have access to various pathways that prepare them to earn industry certifications across several Career Clusters. Based on what we know to be high-demand jobs in growing industries, students will initially have access to courses leading to certification in the IT, Business, and Health clusters. Additional pathways will be added as industry data and student interest dictate.

Career Exploration and Community Platform

A series of interest and aptitude assessments will connect students with exploration opportunities that align with their individual results. These opportunities include Career Communities through which students are exposed to various jobs and experts within their clusters of interest, along with opportunities to identify and pursue individual topics of interest and activity exploration.

Parent-Supported Learning

A parent, guardian, or other responsible adult will serve as their student’s Learning Coach, choosing to be closely involved in their child’s daily education and actively supporting and encouraging their child.
