Beth Harmon started teaching in 1998 and joined our school in 2024. She teaches math and science to students in middle school. Her goal as a teacher is “to create a positive, supportive environment where students feel confident participating and helping each other along the way.”

Why I Became a Teacher

According to Ms. Harmon, “I became a teacher because I love puzzles and mysteries, and every student is like a unique puzzle with their own challenges, strengths, and quirks. I love helping students see the big picture of what they can achieve … It's like solving a mystery every day, where the reward is watching students become more confident in their abilities, discover their potential and realize they’re capable of more than they ever imagined.

“I believe online learning allows so many families and students to thrive, and I love being part of that. The flexibility, personalized learning and pacing, having a safe and comfortable learning environment, and family involvement are all things I love about my job and for our students and their families.”

The Online School Experience at Wyoming Connections Academy

“In my virtual science and math classes,” says Ms. Harmon, “I make learning fun and interactive by having students join on-camera LiveLesson® sessions where they can ask questions, solve problems together, and share ideas.

“Wyoming Connections Academy prepares students for a successful future by combining the benefits of brick-and-mortar public schools with the flexibility of virtual learning. For students, especially those in rural areas, this school offers a unique advantage by providing a high-quality education without the constraints of a traditional classroom setting. This flexibility allows students to learn at their own pace, balancing their studies with other responsibilities or interests … in the safe and comfortable environment of their home.

Message for Families Considering Online School

“Online learning at this school not only provides a high-quality education,” says Ms. Harmon, “but also equips students with essential life skills that prepare them for the future.” Furthermore, she says, “The nature of virtual learning encourages students to become self-sufficient, as they manage their own schedules, navigate online resources, and develop strong problem-solving skills. These skills are crucial for becoming productive young adults who can adapt to various challenges and opportunities.”

Hobbies and Interests

“My husband and I have two children who are both Wyoming Connections Academy students and love online learning!” She adds, “As a family, we love to rodeo together. When I’m not teaching, I love spending time with my family and enjoy team roping, working horses, ranching, and gardening.”

“It’s awesome to see the ’Aha!’ moments when everything clicks, and [students] realize they've solved it. It makes learning fun, engaging, and hands-on — even in a virtual setting.”
