Why I Decided to Become a Teacher

I loved science and was debating between becoming a doctor or a teacher. I also wanted a family, and being a doctor wouldn’t allow me to be as family oriented as was important to me. The most rewarding part of teaching here is having connections with the families and students I work with and get to teach.

Student engagement and interaction are important, so I make sure class time is interactive, with lots of content-based games and simulations. I also use icebreaker games and questions to create a genuine classroom atmosphere. Icebreaker activities at the beginning of each lesson are my favorite because they help me connect with the students on a personal level.

The Online School Program Experience at Virginia Connections Academy

Virtual learning at this school helps prepare students for a bright and successful future, in part, by allowing them to learn at their own pace. This enables them to fully understand the content before moving on. Virtual learning also encourages students to take more responsibility for their learning and to develop skills independently. This, too, helps prepare them for their future endeavors.

Our online education setting allows me to have office hours that make me available to students if they have questions or need help. Students at this school can’t skate by without putting in any work. They have to take charge of their learning and recognize the value of the education they’re achieving.

My Personal Interests

I love the beach, traveling, reading a good romance novel, and spending time with my family.

“What I love about virtual teaching is that the students who show up are the ones who want to be here, so class time is more productive and enriching.”
