Enrollment Information for the 2023-24 School Year
- The enrollment capacity is 750 students.
- Students will be placed on a waiting list and released to enroll based on completion of enrollment tasks.
- First semester enrollment will close on 10/31/2023 at 11:59 PM ET.
Grades 6-11 Enrollment Deadlines
First semester enrollment will close on 10/31/2023 at 11:59 PM ET.
- The last day to register: 10/23/2023
- The last day to submit documents: 10/25/2023
- The last day to complete Final Confirmation: 10/31/2023 at 11:59 PM ET.
Students in grades 6-11 not enrolled by 10/31/2023 will have the opportunity to enroll for second semester.

Enrollment Information for the 2022-23 School Year
- The enrollment capacity is 575 students. Space is limited.
- Students who complete all enrollment tasks will be placed on a waiting list and released to enroll on a first come, first served basis.
Grades 6-7 and 9-10 Deadlines
- Enrollment for the 2022-23 school year will close on 4/1/2023 at 11:59 PM ET.
- Last day to create an account: 3/27/2023
- Last day to submit documents: 3/30/2023
- Last day to complete Final Confirmation: 4/1/2023 at 11:59 PM ET.

Check Eligibility
To attend Virginia Connections Academy, you must meet certain program and state requirements determined by Virginia state laws. Prior to enrollment, review the eligibility requirements closely to be sure your student is eligible to take part in our program for grades 6–11. Once your enrollment is confirmed, please immediately withdraw your student from their previous publicly-funded school. Students cannot be simultaneously enrolled in two public schools.
Note: Students who are currently expelled or suspended from their local school or district may not be eligible to enroll.

Please have the following documents available when you are ready to begin the enrollment process.

A copy of one of the following must be provided for each child in order to verify age eligibility:
- Official birth certificate
To avoid unnecessary delays, provide a copy of one of this official document along with your other enrollment documents. If you do not have either of these documents, please contact the enrollment team at 800-382-6010 to learn about possible alternatives.
Not Sure Where to Get That?
- If you need a copy of your child's birth certificate, you can obtain it from your county health department or order it online through Virginia’s Public Health Department.
- If your child was born in another state, please visit the CDC’s Where to Write for Vital Records webpage for more information. When using this tool, please remember to follow the CDC's Application Guidelines.
As a reminder, the age eligibility is as follows:
- Maximum Age: Any student who turns twenty (20) years old on or before August 1 will not be eligible to enroll.

Proof of Residence
According to the Virginia State Department of Education, you must reside in the state of Virginia and provide ONE acceptable proof of residency to be eligible for enrollment in Virginia Connections Academy. There are many verifiable forms of documentation, which are detailed below.
Not Sure What is Accepted as Proof?
- Gas, electric, water, or sewage bill from the last 60 days, that includes your name and service address
- Mortgage statement or an annual lease agreement
- Rent receipt from the last 60 days
- Driver’s license/state ID
- Bank statement from the last 60 days
- Credit card Statement from the last 60 days
- Cable bill from the last 60 days
- Letter from a government agency from the last 60 days
- Voter registration card
- Payroll stub from the last 60 days
- Most recent W2
- Property tax statement
- Property deed
- Recent settlement statement
- Propane or oil delivery bill from the last 60 days

Child’s Proof of Immunization
All Virginia Connections Academy students must provide evidence of their immunizations on the Virginia Certificate of Immunization (COI).
These forms must be stamped by a health care provider.

Where Can I Get Immunizations for My Student?
Immunizations can be obtained from doctor’s offices, clinics, or hospitals. Pediatricians and family doctors or their nurses or medical assistants can give your student the shots they need to meet the requirements for school enrollment.
Exemptions
A student may be exempt from immunizations for the following reasons: medical exemption or religious beliefs.
- Religious Exemption: You must submit the Department of Health-approved Virginia Certificate of Religious Exemption, obtained through your local health department.
- Medical Exemption: You must submit the Department of Health-approved Virginia Certificate of Medical Exemption, obtained through your health care provider.

Prior Academic Records
All students who have previously attended public school, private school, or homeschool are eligible to enroll and will be requested to submit academic records for placement.
Report Card
For students applying for grades 6–10: Please submit a copy of the report card from the most recent school year.
The following items should be included on the report card:
- Student Name
- Grade Level
- School Year (example: 2022–23)
- School Name
- Grading Scale (example: 90–100%=A)
Unofficial Transcript
For students applying for grade 11: Submit an unofficial transcript that includes the complete end-of-year grades from the prior school year(s) and any academic documentation (such as a progress report/interim report, class schedule, or marking period/semester report card) issued for the current school year. Additional documentation may be requested for placement.
The following items should be included on the unofficial transcript:
- Student Name
- Grade Level
- School Year (example: 2022–23)
- School Name
- Grading Scale (example: 90–100%=A)
- Credits Earned
Not Sure How to Get Your Child’s Report Card or Transcript?
- Contact your student's previous school and request the document, providing them with the information outlined above, OR contact your school's district office with the request.
If after attempting these steps you still cannot obtain your student's report card or transcript, please contact the academic placement services team at 800-382-6010 to discuss acceptable alternatives.
Have Your Child(ren) Been Formerly Homeschooled?
If your children are currently homeschooled, please complete the Prior Academic History Form. This document will be available to you in Pearson Online Classroom (formerly known as Connexus®).
