What is a Learning Coach?
Simply put, a Connections Academy Learning Coach is a parent, caregiver, or other trusted adult who actively supports their student’s learning at home. After all, you know what your child needs. What excites them. What challenges them. What they dream of when they imagine their future.
Daily Learning Coach Tasks By Grade Level
Helping Your Child Succeed
What should you expect? You’ll be able to provide your child with a level of support and guidance that no one else can, and you’ll get to watch them learn, progress, and succeed.
Learning Coaches are responsible for structuring their child’s school day—a task made simple with our online scheduling tool. You’ll also monitor attendance, stay in touch with teachers by phone or email, and provide one-on-one support with learning activities. However, the specifics of your role will shift as your child grows older and gains more independence.
Elementary School
Grades K-5
- Spend about 5–6 hours a day overseeing schoolwork
- Schedule your child’s day with school activities and breaks
- Lend a hand with online school lessons and regularly connect with your child’s teacher
- Help make sure your child is understanding their lessons and progressing
- Celebrate their achievements and encourage them to keep going

We provide a virtual orientation for both Learning Coaches and students. The orientations are designed to familiarize new Connections Academy families with how online school works and to provide the necessary information for success. Orientations are available at your convenience, 24/7.
Getting Started in Virtual School – Live Webinars
These onboarding sessions help newly enrolled parents learn more about being Learning Coaches; get parent-tested tips for daily routines and organization; and learn all about Pearson Online Classroom (formerly known as Connexus®), our online learning platform.
The Learning Coach Toolbox Series – Live Webinars
This webinar series is designed for both new and experienced Learning Coaches, and is offered throughout the year as you support your students. Topics include understanding your student’s learning process, and more.
Recordings are available if you miss a session or just want to go back and review.
Learning Coach Central, a parent portal containing useful resources for all Learning Coaches, offers a wealth of resources and materials to support you in our online school program once your student enrolls. You’ll also find links to the Learning Coach Success Series session schedules, the Clubs and Activities program, College and Career Program, and more.
Technology Support
In addition to our 24/7 searchable online help system, we provide a toll-free technical support number for families to use if they need help troubleshooting any computer-related issues during the school day.
