Why I Became a Teacher

I previously wanted to become a secondary social science teacher because I feel that social studies and science courses are often not taught to the fullest and students are left with little knowledge of the past or about the world around them. After my oldest daughter was born, I realized that teaching science and social studies needs to begin at an early age, so I decided to change my major after graduating with my associate degree in secondary social science to a bachelor’s in elementary education K‒6.

Students at Tennessee Connections Academy learn computer skills at a young age. The computer skills that are taught and learned throughout our various programs can be used for a lifetime.

During LiveLesson® sessions, I try to incorporate virtual field trips to Disney World, art museums, and zoos. I then use this information to have the students vote and use the answers from the poll pods to create bar graphs and tally graphs that can be easily read to interpret data.

The most rewarding part of teaching online is making connections with students from all demographics and cultures. Understanding their culture has opened a new horizon for me.

The Online School Experience

You will love our virtual program. Our teachers really care about the students. The connections we make with them are like nothing you’ll find anywhere else.
