Online School Counselors

Tennessee Connections Academy’s (TNCA) school counselors are fully licensed, available full-time, and dedicated to helping students achieve their goals and reach their full potential, helping with:

  • Social and personal development
  • Scheduling, planning, and academic goal setting

Helping Students Succeed

Our school counselors are not only specially trained in developmental and educational psychology, but are well equipped with master’s degrees, giving them a wide range of skills to help students manage social, personal, and academic issues that have the potential to affect their school success, and overall success in life.

At Tennessee Connections Academy, our counseling program is founded upon relationships, so our counselors are easily accessible by students and families as needed, whether in person, online, or over the phone. Our national Connections Academy office offers additional support with its collaborative school counselor network across the country, which allows our counselors to bring expertise and attention to our families and students.

Preparing Students for College and Career

Beyond their daily counseling activities, our counselors offer services designed to help Tennessee  high school students prepare for college and career with:

  • Personal learning plans focusing on postgraduation goals
  • Interactive online LiveLesson® sessions connecting Connections Academy families across the country with real-time information on financial aid and scholarships, college application processes, entrance requirements, and more
  • College test preparation courses for the SAT examinations
  • One-on-one counseling to provide resources and assistance with postsecondary planning, including career options, vocational training, and selecting the right college

Meet Emily Force-Tinsley

School Counselor

Emily Force-Tinsley is a school counselor at Tennessee Connections Academy who joined the school in 2019. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in education school counseling. Ms. Force-Tinsley chose to become an educator because she wanted to work with children on their mental health and social/emotional skills and help them in the process of becoming strong and resilient adults.

At Tennessee Connections Academy, she enjoys the unique opportunity to connect with students who, for many reasons, did not find brick-and-mortar schools to be a good fit. These students often need their school counselor the most.

Ms. Force-Tinsley says, “In many cases, being in the comfort of their own home allows students to express themselves more freely and make more progress toward goals of self-regulation and emotional education. Tennessee Connections Academy ensures that kids are getting a holistic education, including physical, educational, and mental fitness. We treat students as a whole being to encourage growth.

My favorite part of the job is either my elementary guidance lessons with all grades or the Friday recess I host with third through fifth graders, where we learn about character education. The kids chat with their friends freely and listen to music, and then we dance to a KIDZ BOP! Seeing the kids connect in these gatherings is wonderful!”
