High School Teacher

BA, Ohio State University

Ms. Meléndez is a high school Spanish teacher at Ohio Connections Academy (OCA). She started her teaching career in 2009 and joined OCA in 2010. She holds a bachelor of science from The Ohio State University. Ms. Melendez shares her story below:

“My first experiences in teaching came from teaching dance, and I loved it. I have taught everything from ballroom to hip-hop! Then when I had an opportunity to become a Spanish teacher, I was thrilled. It is amazing to be able to share my passion for the language and culture, especially since I was raised with both Mexican and American cultures. One of my favorite things to do with my students is to compare what their culture is like to other Spanish-speaking countries. I also love getting my students excited about learning a new language and helping them grow!

"Every child deserves an opportunity to learn and grow, and I appreciate that our school supports that 100 percent. We really make the learning experience fun and special!"

I love teaching at OCA because of the relationships I am able to build with my families and co-workers. Every child deserves an opportunity to learn and grow, and I appreciate that our school supports that 100 percent. We really make the learning experience fun and special!

There are many benefits to teaching at an online school. I am able to use the latest technology to enrich my student's learning, and I can also be flexible with my students and families. There is no room for a flexible schedule at a traditional bricks-and-mortar, but at OCA, we can work together to ensure each child's success.”
