Keeping Virtual School Students Connected
Michigan Connections Academy is dedicated to connecting students to their community through an innovative and human experience. At our virtual school, we create an online learning environment that is social and fun with the help of technology and dedicated teachers, staff, and Learning Coaches.
Online LiveLesson® sessions in our virtual school provide a great medium for students to share ideas, compare experiences, and simply have fun learning with classmates. No matter what level of social interaction your children are comfortable with inside or outside the classroom, they will always be able to choose the level of interaction most comfortable for them.
The virtual school experience doesn’t bind a student to a seat in front of a computer. Students can meet their fellow classmates in person while also learning because Michigan Connections Academy provides field trips and special school events expressly created to stimulate social connections while students engage in activities. Online school clubs are yet another means to keep them connected with unique experiences that only a social environment can provide.
While students explore the world around them and learn at a pace that works best for them, they can still make friends, build confidence, practice teamwork, learn leadership skills, and develop communication skills. Plus, these school experiences are fun!
Virtual School Allows Flexibility for Extracurriculars
Though the idea of virtual school may suggest the image of a student working on his or her own, many students attending Michigan Connections Academy are busy with activities involving their local communities. Rather than confining students to a strict schedule, the flexible scheduling of our virtual school program allows many students the freedom to take advantage of even more extracurricular activities. These activities represent additional opportunities for Michigan Connections Academy students to find and explore interests outside the classroom that will ultimately build confidence and character.
Virtual School Works with Your Family
Parents have always been crucial in supporting children’s education, and virtual school gives whole families the freedom to work and learn together. Naturally, the same routine does not work for every student and family. That’s why Michigan Connections Academy lets you design a schedule that includes volunteer work, sports, performing arts, and other pursuits.
Parents in particular perform a very important role as the Learning Coach. With the tools provided by our virtual school, it’s easy for Learning Coaches to keep the student on track and to regularly communicate with teachers.
Families can connect with teachers school counselors, community coordinators, and other parents both online and in person with our:
- Open houses
- Learning Coach training, which is available both online and at local teaching centers
- Interactive and secure Message Boards where parents can post questions, tips, and resources for helping students succeed
- Club ORANGE, a network of Michigan Connections Academy (MICA) parents who are highly involved in the MICA community
- The Virtual Learning Connections blog, where Learning Coaches find tips and information about a variety of topics for busy virtual schooling families
Participating in the Virtual School Community at Large
Our emphasis on community participation helps students understand that they are part of a broad community that extends outside of MICA’s virtual classroom. With help from Learning Coaches and community coordinators, we arrange volunteer activities and participation in other community events throughout Michigan.
