Maddie is a high school student at Maine Connections Academy (MCA). She lives with her family in Maine for most of the year, and travels to Puerto Rico in the winter, to train to be a professional surfer. Maddie is excelling at MCA because she is able to easily monitor her progress and communicate with her teachers. She shares more below.
I am most passionate about surfing and doing well in school. What interested me about MCA is that it offers the flexibility I need for my schedule. I train in the morning and then do schoolwork from late morning until afternoon. If the waves are good, I can train longer and then work into the evening or on weekends.
Being able to see my grades every day has pushed me to do even better. What I like most about MCA is that I can learn at my own pace and balance school with my passion: surfing. My favorite subjects are language arts and social studies because I enjoy reading, writing, and learning about other teachers. I especially like my social studies teacher because he had pushed me to challenge myself. MCA also offered the opportunity for me to take a 10th grade Spanish course when I was only in middle school. I feel like I learn a lot every day and my teachers help me whenever I need it. I can email them or attend LiveLesson® sessions when I want to learn more.
What I like most about MCA is that I can learn at my own pace and balance school with my passion: surfing.
