Get ready to enroll in online school at Georgia Connections Academy, serving grades K–12. Typically, the enrollment process takes just a few weeks to complete. But spots fill up quickly, so make sure you start as soon as you can. Here's how to get started:

Step 1

Check Eligibility

You must meet specific state and program requirements to attend Georgia Connections Academy. Student eligibility requirements in Georgia are determined by the Georgia State Board of Education. Before enrolling, review the following eligibility requirements carefully to determine whether your student(s) is eligible to participate in grades K–12. Once your enrollment is confirmed, please immediately withdraw your student from their previous publicly-funded school. Students cannot be simultaneously enrolled in two public schools.

Note: Georgia Connections Academy does not accept students who are currently expelled or suspended from their local school or district.

Age Limitations

Kindergarten: Any student enrolling in kindergarten must be five (5) years old on or before September 1 in the school year for he or she is enrolling.

First Grade: Any student enrolling in first grade must be six (6) years old on or before September 1 in the school year for which he or she is enrolling.

Maximum Age: For high school enrollment, maximum age requirements apply. Students in general education who turn 21 on or before September 1 are ineligible to enroll. Students receiving special education services who turn 22 on or before September 1 are also ineligible to enroll. Additionally, if a general education student has been out of school for one semester or longer, they will be ineligible to enroll if they turn 20 on or before September 1.

Geographical Limitations

You must reside in the state of Georgia and provide acceptable proof of residency to be eligible for enrollment in Georgia Connections Academy. Students do not need to be withdrawn from their previous school prior to enrolling in Georgia Connections Academy. Please complete the enrollment process and Georgia Connections Academy will notify the student's previous district of the change in schools.

Immunizations

All Georgia Connections Academy students must provide evidence of their immunizations to be eligible for enrollment.

Medical and Religious Exemption

A student may be exempt from immunizations for medical and religious belief reasons. See the document section below to see documentation needed for exemption from immunizations.

Please have the following documents available when you are ready to begin the enrollment process.

Child's Proof of Age

A copy of one of the following must be provided for each child in order to verify age eligibility:

Official birth certificate
Passport
Certificate of live birth
Signed baptismal papers
Hospital certificate
Government-issued ID

To avoid unnecessary delays, provide a copy of one of these official documents along with your enrollment documents. If you do not have any of these documents, please contact the enrollment team at 1-833-591-0251 to learn about possible alternatives.

Not Sure Where to Get That?

As a reminder, the age eligibility is as follows:

Kindergarten: Any student enrolling in kindergarten must be five (5) years old on or before September 1 in the school year for he or she is enrolling.
First Grade: Any student enrolling in first grade must be six (6) years old on or before September 1 in the school year for which he or she is enrolling.
Maximum Age: Students who have dropped out for one (1) or more semesters must be twenty (20) years old or younger by September 1 in the respective school enrollment year. For continuously enrolled students the maximum age is twenty-one (21) years old or younger by September 1 (general education) and twenty-two (22) years old or younger (special education) by September 1 in the respective school enrollment year.

Proof of Residence

Two forms of proof of residency are required. If you do not have any of these documents, please contact the enrollment team to discuss acceptable alternatives.

One item from Column A and one item from Column B are required. Items marked with an asterisk (*) must be dated with the last 60 days.

Current lease agreement (signed, showing terms of lease).
Mortgage statement (showing property address)*
Rent receipt (signed by property management, showing address)*

Most recent property tax statement

Column B:

Utility bill (electric, water, sewage or gas bill) showing service address*
Cable*
Internet*
Home telephone bill*

Important information regarding Proof of Residency documents:

The items chosen from Column A and B must have the same address
We cannot accept the following items as proof of residency: state or government ID, voter’s registration card, health insurance, cell phone bill or W-2

Child's Proof of Immunizations

Child’s Proof of Immunization and Health Screenings

According to the Georgia Department of Education, Georgia law requires children attending school (Kindergarten–12th grade) to be age-appropriately immunized with all the required vaccines at the time of first entry in school. All students, regardless of grade, must have the Georgia Department of Human Resources Form 3231 immunization certificate marked “Complete for School”. Form 3231 is furnished by local health clinics or health care providers. Form 3231 must be marked "Complete for School" by a health care provider.

Where Can I Get Immunizations for My Student?

Immunizations can be obtained from doctor’s offices, clinics, or hospitals. Pediatricians and family doctors or their nurses or medical assistants can give your student the shots they need to meet the requirements for school enrollment. In addition, some large chain pharmacies offer immunizations for older children and adults.

What if I need Assistance Paying for Vaccines?

If you need assistance paying for shots/vaccinations, you may be able to get free or reduced immunizations through this program:

Vaccines for Children (VFC) program is a federally funded program that provides vaccines at no cost to children who might not otherwise be vaccinated because of inability to pay. Children who are eligible for VFC vaccines are entitled to receive pediatric vaccines that are recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
PeachCare for Kids Program is a comprehensive health care program for uninsured children living in Georgia that provides state-supplied vaccines for children.

Immunization Exemptions

A student may be exempt from immunizations for medical reasons or religious beliefs. The following documents must be submitted for students seeking an exemption from immunizations:

Medical Exemption: Provide the Georgia Department of Human Resources Form 3231 immunization certificate signed by a health care provider. Form 3231 has an expiration date of no later than 12 months from the date of issue. There must be an annual review of the medical exemption and the certificate must be reissued with or without indication of the medical exemption.
Religious Exemptions: For a child to be exempt from immunizations on religious grounds, the parent or guardian must furnish the school with a notarized copy of Georgia Department of Public Health Form 2208. The form must meet the following criteria: The form must be signed and dated by the parent/guardian. The form must be notarized, dated, and signed by a Notary Public.

Prior Academic Records

Students across Georgia in grades K-12 are eligible to enroll in Georgia Connections Academy. Those who have previously attended public school, private school, or homeschool will be asked to submit academic records for placement.

Report Card

For students applying for grades K–9: Please submit a copy of the report card from the most recent school year.

The following items should be included on the report card:

Unofficial Transcript

For students applying for grades 10–12: Submit an unofficial transcript that includes the complete end-of-year grades from the prior school year(s) and any academic documentation (such as a progress report/interim report, class schedule, or marking period/semester report card) issued for the current school year. Additional documentation may be requested for placement.

Not Sure How to Get Your Child’s Report Card or Transcript?

Contact your student's previous school and request the document, providing them with the information outlined above, OR contact your school's district office with the request.

If after attempting these steps you still cannot obtain your student's report card or transcript, please contact the academic placement services team at 1-833-591-0251 to discuss acceptable alternatives.

How should I verify that the documents I sent arrived?

After submitting your documents, you can check the status of your documents by visiting the Enrollment Portal. If you are unable to verify the status of your documents or have any questions, please call 1-833-591-0251 and contact the Enrollment Team using the document submission option in our phone system. We will check the system to see if the document was received. Please be prepared to provide us with the following information: student’s name, number of pages sent, the date sent, and if sent by fax, the fax number.

Why is the virtual enrollment process different from a physical school?

How does self-enrollment work if I am 18 years old, or older, or am an emancipated minor?

Students who are 18 or over must meet age eligibility requirements in their state. Students must also submit academic documentation of all courses attempted since entering the 9th grade. Academic documentation will be reviewed by a school counselor to determine the student's eligibility to complete the program requirements before meeting the age cap for enrollment. Students who cannot complete the program requirements before meeting the age cap for enrollment are not eligible to enroll.

Both emancipated minors and students 18 years and older are required to complete the Parent/Legal Guardian (Caretaker) Acknowledgement (PLCA) form and to provide all required enrollment documentation before the student can enroll. Emancipated minors must also submit court documentation for their emancipation. Please contact the Enrollment Team at 1-833-591-0251 for more information.
