Ms. Malan is a High School Assistant Principal at Colorado Connections Academy. She joined the Connections Academy family in 2020 at another Connections Academy school. Passionate about supporting students, families, and educators, Ms. Malan believes that strong relationships combined with high expectations help students discover their potential and achieve their goals.
Why I Chose Education
I've wanted to work in education for as long as I can remember. My very first job was at an elementary school, where I worked with emerging readers, and I quickly realized there was nothing more rewarding than helping a child discover they could do something they once thought was impossible.
I began my own educational journey at the University of Utah while balancing life as a young mother and military wife. Those experiences reinforced my belief that every learner's path is different and that every student deserves an educator who sees their potential before they see it themselves.
Education is about so much more than teaching curriculum. It's about helping students build confidence, develop character, and discover what's possible. As an assistant principal, I'm passionate about creating an environment where students, families, and educators all feel supported, challenged, and valued. I truly believe that when strong relationships are combined with high expectations, incredible things can happen.
What I Love About Colorado Connections Academy
One of my favorite things about Connections Academy is the incredible diversity of our students. We serve learners from all walks of life, students in rural communities, competitive athletes, performers, students with unique learning needs, and others who simply thrive in a virtual environment.
I also love the relationships we build. Even though we're virtual, we get to know our students and families in meaningful ways. Those connections allow us to celebrate successes, navigate challenges together, and truly personalize each student's educational experience.

Relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We work hard to assume positive intent, communicate openly, and partner with families to support every student. Whether we're celebrating successes or working through challenges together, we focus on doing what's best for students.
We want every family to know they are valued, heard, and supported. When students, parents, and educators work together as a team, amazing things happen.
Supporting Students for the Future
Virtual learning offers flexibility while still providing students with strong academic support and meaningful connections. Students are able to learn in an environment that works best for them while receiving instruction from dedicated teachers. Families also become active partners in the learning process, creating a collaborative approach that helps students succeed both academically and personally.
Colorado Connections Academy helps students develop the knowledge, confidence, and skills they'll need long after graduation. Along with a rigorous academic program, our students learn life skills like time management, self-advocacy, responsibility, and communication.
Our goal is to help every student discover their strengths, build confidence, and prepare for whatever path they choose next, whether that's college, a career, military service, or another opportunity that fits their goals.
My Interests
When I'm not at school, I love spending time with my family. Between our 11 children, ranging in age from six months to 31 years old, 3 grandchildren, and 3 dogs, there's never a dull moment! I also enjoy traveling, tackling home projects, gardening, and reading.
My favorite place to unwind is my back porch with a cup of herbal tea and a good book. I love watching the birds, enjoying the quiet, and taking a moment to recharge before the busyness of the day begins.
I'm also a lifelong learner and am currently pursuing my Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at Indiana University. I enjoy discovering new ideas that help me grow both personally and professionally, and I love bringing those ideas back to better serve our students, families, and educators.
