High School Teacher

Cory Poulson is a high school teacher at Utah Connections Academy. He began teaching in 2013 and joined UCA in 2016. Mr. Poulson earned his bachelor’s degree in secondary geoscience education from Western Governors University. He shares about his teaching journey below.

The Online School Experience at Utah Connections Academy

"I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in students’ lives. Teaching for an online school is great because I am able to teach students from all over the state—we can share very different experiences about where we live. I also really like technology, so this fits my personality pretty nicely!

At UCA, I don’t have to spend so much energy trying to manage the classroom like I did in a previous bricks-and-mortar school. UCA helps students, who might have had a difficult time in a traditional school setting, succeed.

My Teaching Background

I would tell a prospective parent that you can give your child a great education without having to worry about the stresses and influences that go hand-in-hand with a traditional school. You can also keep a much better eye on your child’s progress.

Hobbies and Interests

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy writing, blacksmithing, and playing video games."
