Jaiya

Middle School Student

Jaiya is a middle school student at Great River Connections Academy. She came to the online public charter school at the start of this academic year because her parents, Kevin and Sheree, wanted her to receive the best online education available. Great River Connections Academy came highly recommended to them.

Why I Chose Great River Connections Academy

I previously attended traditional public schools and have been homeschooled by my parents. They determined I needed an academic setting that offers a flexible schedule since I am a Junior Olympic sprinter, competing in events all over North America. In fact, I recently won the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter events at the Canadian Championships. Since the age of two, I’ve loved to run and as time passed, my parents realized that I had a gift.

“The flexibility of the schedule that Great River Connections offered was a major factor in our decision,” Kevin said. “At the same time, the staff and the teachers have made the transition very easy. We appreciate everything they’ve done for Jaiya.”

Future Plans

My sights are set on competing in the 2024 Olympics and I enjoy sharing my progress with the track and field community. In fact, in a recent TikTok post, I recorded myself running 17 mph on a treadmill, and it went viral and received millions of views. The video was shown on ESPN SportsCenter and got the attention of Access Hollywood, for which I recently did an interview.

In my spare time, I enjoy singing, dancing, painting, drawing, and baking. I also hope to one day become a pediatrician, create a gallery to share my artwork with the world, and work in philanthropy to help others less fortunate.
