Sarah McCabe

K–12 Physical Education and Health Teacher

Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Western Michigan University, 2012, Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), University of North Carolina at Wilmington, 2020

Sarah McCabe began teaching in 2018 and joined North Carolina Connections Academy in 2026. She teaches Physical Education and Health to students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Why I Became a Teacher

Ms. McCabe became a teacher because she loves helping students discover what they are capable of and watching their confidence grow along the way. As a Physical Education and Health teacher, she can teach skills that extend far beyond the classroom, including confidence, perseverance, teamwork, healthy decision-making, and self-care. Knowing that she can make a positive difference in a student’s life is what makes teaching her content so meaningful.

The Online School Experience at North Carolina Connections Academy

The most rewarding part of teaching virtually for Ms. McCabe is getting to know students as individuals and finding creative ways to make them feel connected, supported, and successful. She loves that online education allows teachers to work with students from across North Carolina and create opportunities for different personalities, interests, and learning styles. She especially enjoys seeing students become more confident, engaged, and willing to challenge themselves.

Engaging Students Online

Ms. McCabe loves incorporating interactive LiveLesson® activities, especially polls, games, challenges, and opportunities for students to share their ideas. In Physical Education and Health, she wants students to be active participants rather than simply listening to a lesson. Whether they are talking about healthy choices, fitness, teamwork, or setting personal goals, she enjoys creating activities that make learning fun and relevant to students’ everyday lives.

Some Personal Interests

Outside of teaching, Ms. McCabe loves staying active and making the most of life with the people she loves. She enjoys fitness, outdoor adventures, traveling, dancing, trying new things, and spending time at the beach. She also loves a good laugh and never turns down an opportunity for karaoke or a fun adventure. She tries to bring that same energy, positivity, and sense of fun into her classroom.
