Kristie Fetterly began teaching in 2004 and worked for Connections Academy as a curriculum alignment specialist from 2011 to 2018. She now teaches middle and high school social studies. Having taught in virtual and hybrid settings for most of her career, Mrs. Fetterly says coming back to remote learning feels like home.
Why I Became a Teacher
Mrs. Fetterly became a teacher because an amazing social studies teacher changed her perspective on education. “He brought real-life examples into the classroom, engaged with each of us directly, supported our goals, and made sure every single student knew how incredible and capable they were,” she says. “I wanted to become an educator to ensure every student feels seen, valued, and empowered in the exact same way.”
“Every single learner deserves to know how capable they are.”

Engaging Students Online
Mrs. Fetterly’s favorite activity is hosting Socratic seminars. She enjoys watching students open up their thinking, lead their own learning, and engage in meaningful, collaborative conversations with their peers. She also hosts regular one-on-one support times and help desk sessions where students and families can troubleshoot schoolwork, ask questions, or simply talk about life.
Some Personal Interests
Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Fetterly can almost always be found outdoors. She and her husband love hiking, and they feel so lucky to have Hanging Rock State Park right in their backyard for quick weekend trail runs.
A major passion of hers right now is training with her dog, Tairn. He is currently in training to become a Search and Rescue K9, which means she is also training as a Search and Rescue handler! Their focus is wilderness and forest rescues, so they spend a lot of quality time out in the woods together. Family is incredibly important to her as well, and she loves spending time with her two adult sons whenever they can catch a movie or just hang out together.
